Harry Davis Jr believes that helping others is one secret to alleviating stress.

“I really enjoy helping out where I can, and I look for opportunities to be of assistance to others,” he says. “I believe if more people were humble and embodied the servant attitude, there would be less pain in this world.”

A logistics manager with Marine Corps Logistics Base, Albany, Harry takes pride in a job well done, professionally, effectively, and efficiently. He enlisted in the Marines in 1980, and has served in numerous capacities, including an officer, before becoming a civilian Marine. He has been at MCLB Albany since September 2008.

“I am proud of my service to my family, my country, and my Corps.”

An avid runner – he has a dream of running a marathon in every state and has accomplished 16 already – he also finds motivation in his church, faith, volunteering, and mentoring young men from various socio-economic backgrounds, teaching them skills to enable them to become well-mannered boys and, eventually, successful men in society. The “Boys To Men” program is part of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where Harry is an active member. He also serves with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., an opportunity that has opened his eyes to a number of service activities that allow him yet another outlet to contribute to the greater Albany community, he says.

Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, into a family of nine children, Harry and his wife have two children and have raised a granddaughter who is now off at college in Orlando. 

“I think it’s very important to maintain close family bonds because it gives us a sense of belonging and responsibility.”
